Anthill's popular Tunnel Talk series is proud to bring back...
Young Entrepreneurs' Night Out
Are you...
A young Queensland entrepreneur with a desire to meet other like-minded business builders? If so, you are invited to join Anthill at our 'Young Entrepreneur's Night Out'.
The Facts...
When: Thursday 1 July, 2010 (6pm-9pm)
Where: To be announced.
What: Meet and learn from other young business builders. Share a drink. Have a laugh. Gain insights from a panel of business builders. And most importantly of all, help us build a culture of entrepreneurship in Queensland!
The Cost...
This event will cost you one dollar for every year you have lived on this planet.
Yup, attendance is priced to reflect the age of each attendee. This means that 35 year-olds will be required to pay $35 for attendance, while 18 year-olds will pay $18.
This seemed like a fair way to subsidise the cost of booze, finger food and some flights from Melbourne to Brisbane. (Gotta give a little to get a little, right?)
Simply insert your age as the "Enter Discount Code" above (i.e. 29 to pay $29).

What you'll get...
Building a business at any age can be a lonely undertaking. But young entrepreneurs have it tougher than most. Our friends and parents often don't understand the complexities of running a business... or the personal stress that comes with the job.
Meet and learn from other young business builders. Share a drink. Have a laugh. Gain insights from a panel of business builders who have 'been there, done that' and created successful ventures. Benefit from the experiences of other attendees.
And most importantly of all, help us build a culture of entrepreneurship in Queensland!
Our Speakers...
They come from a range of backgrounds and the full spectrum of the business development ladded. Yet despite their differences they all had one thing in common. They started young and defied the odds!
Nicson White, Health Protect International
In 2008, Nicson White secured a place as one of Anthill's youngest members of our inaugural 30under30 awards. Nicson White has not found
age a barrier but just a source of determination.
After working a plethora of standard teenage jobs, he decided he’d had enough. With little more than knowledge gained through reading in his spare time, Nicson was given the opportunity to work for a marketing firm.
A few years later, he’d had enough of “working for the man” and founded Health Protect International (HPI). HPI specialises in mattress sanitisation throughout Australia and New Zealand, focusing on the importance of health and hygiene in the tourism industry, particularly hotels.
Nicson has already won a number of awards, including the 2007 My Business GIO Award for Best Small Business. It may not be small for long.
Chris Saad, Echo (formerly JS-Kit)
At 28, Chris Saad is one of Australia’s most impressive young web
entrepreneurs. His theory and practice around web standards (specifically “DataPortability” and “Attention Management”) have gained
significant international attention.
He has co-founded several web-related companies and organisations, most prominently Faraday Media in 2006, resopnsoble for developing Particls, a technology that learns user habit and taste and delivers relevant information to them via news crawler, SMS, email, flash visualisations, etc.
He also co-founded the Media 2.0 Workgroup with 14 industry
“commentators, agitators and innovators”. Now based in San Francisco, he's applying these entrepreneurial skills to Echo (formerly JS-Kit) making a name for himself in one of the world's most competitive markets for entrepreneurs.
Marianna Shek, Visual Monkies
Marianna Shek is the founder and managing director of Visual Monkies. Working alonside a team of young entrepreneurs, Marianna is carving out a name for the animination outfit, securing projects for the State Library of Queenland, Fade In Productions and even scoring accolades from ABC TV's Hungry Beast.
Before Visual Monkies, Marianna worked as a pharmacist (also running her own pharmacy consultancy business) before embarking on a career in animation. She specialises in writing, producing and the sporadic production of "artsy fartsy sculptures and paintings".
Chris Kettle, My247.com.au
Growing up, Chris Kettle
never knew the word
‘entrepreneur’. He just wanted to follow his gut instincts.
Now those gut instincts see him poised to go global with his current company, my247.com.au, a comprehensive entertainment guide to Australia.
Kettle’s goal is to help you have fun twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week!
David Novakovic is a self-confessed nerd. He recently completed his masters degree in computational linguistics research while working on various other projects full time. Despite hoping it wasn't true he has recently confirmed that weekends really are a myth. He spends 9-to-5 cutting code on wearehunted.com and 5-to-9 working on http://m.tweete.net a mobile Twitter client with many, many users. He is what many aspire to be and few achieve: An intrapreneur!
James Tuckerman (MC)
James Tuckerman is the editor and founder of Anthill Magazine. At the age of 26, he quit a promising career in PR to launch an indepenent business magazine "with a sense of humour".
Since then, the business has evolved to become one of Australia's leading online communities for entrepreneurs and features among the Top 50 Business & Finance websites in Australia, according to Nielsen Online Ratings.
It is also home to Anthill Events (such as this one), Anthill Awards (such as 30under30) and a range of programs and tools to help business development.
He is a sought after business and media commentator and doesn't mind sharing his often controversial views. Indeed, his mouth rarely closes (see image right).
Plus you!
We anticipate that our attendees will be an interesting mob (Yes, we're talking about you). Don't expect to be neglected from our MC's gentle probing.
In summary...
Meet and learn from other young business builders. Share a drink. Have a laugh.
Gain insights from a panel of business builders who have 'been there, done that' and created successful ventures. Benefit from the experiences of other attendees.
